Further Left???!!!

According to the International Herald Tribune, a group of liberal bloggers said it is teaming up with organized labor and MoveOn to form a political action committee that will seek to push the Democratic Party farther to the left.  Great.

The new group intends to raise money through its blogs to run more liberal candidates in primaries to oust conservative Democrats.  According to the article:

“Organizers of the new group, to be called Accountability Now, said their intention is to enable Obama to seek more liberal policies without fear of losing support from the more conservative members of his party serving in Congress”

The Left-leaning bloggers recently provided muscle for the movement that helped Ned Lamont defeat Senator Joseph Lieberman in the Connecticut Democratic primary in 2006. ( Lieberman went on to retain his seat after running in the general election as an independent.)  This may be an important example–even though the left wing bloggers were successful in the primary, they were not successful in the general election.  I believe that most of the American population is waking up to the consequences of moving further left–higher taxes, more money to people who are being rewarded for acting irresponsibly, moving the war on terror back to the legal system (as it was under Bill Clinton), rather than letting the military be in charge, and socialized medicine.  I’m not sure these will be popular programs.

The political action committee officially begins today.  They have already raised $ 500,000 (which they raised last September).
